I've had the Ultimate for at least 6 or 7 years and it is a great machine that does a lot of things and does not take up a lot of room. Don't know what they sell for new now but a half price deal sounds good--check the power rods and make sure they are nice and stiff I think they tend to wear out over time but can be replaced.
I'm making tremendous gains with an old schwinn bowflex that my neighbor just gave me a few weeks ago. I really do like it except that it does not have enough resistance to do anything for my legs and I'll quickly be wanting more for upper body. I think the higher-end models like you are talking about probably offer plenty of resistance. However, I'd look at craigslist if I were you. Before I was given one, I had found several really nice used ones under $300.
