It would probably make a good door mat to wipe your boots on! I would like to see one though

Door mat!! That's one of the ideas I was thinking about...kind of rustic and you wouldn't care about the wear and tear and it would be a "curiosity" and addition to a rustic feel living room/den??

I could see tanning one w/o the hair on for the leather. It wouldn't last very long as a door mat and the tanning process would be too expensive if you paid to have it done, and too much hassle if you do it yourself just for a door mat. JMHO.

You can see a tanned one now without the hair if you turn on the Pats/ Jets game.

They look awesome! Actually, throughout Europe it's a very common practice and they are typically used as rugs or, as someone said earlier, "floormats!" And, in fact, they DO last a long time. My whole family in Germany (moms side) hunts and they all have them in their homes. My grandfather had some that had lasted 20+ years. Over there they leave the hoofs on and attach green felt to the bottom side with a small scalloped edge showing around the perimeter of the hide. I find it hard to believe it would be $400 to have it done- I would shop around for prices!
