    Headlights wont pass inspection...

Took my 92 Ford Taurus to be inspected last week and the guy failed it due to a little bit of water (can barely see it ripple if you thump the headlight, so probably is just a few drops) sitting in the bottom of the plastic lamp housing. lights work fine and are bright. They have been like this for a number of years and I never had any trouble getting car inspected before. Is this a legitimate excuse to fail or is he ignorant? He said I will have to replace housings or at least take them off and get water out. The housings are $165 each for new ones!!! And are a real PIA to remove.

some older fords and dodges are BAD about this, just drill very small hole in the lowest part of the light and let drain, leave the hole open as water will get in there again and simply drain out, i did this on my dodge and have never had water in the light again

And this violates what regulation that would disqualify it from passing?

I'd just go to another inspection station. I've gotten a lot of stuff that wouldn't pass inspection at one place that passed a couple of blocks down the road. I've been denied on one thing or another twice, but never three times!

My old pathfinder had one headlight with a hole in the lens. I put sealant on it, to keep water from getting in. It was never denied inspection. Go somewhere else.

Had some condensation in my wifes Altima headlights and it failed inspection. Drilled some small holes in bottom of the housing and it dried out. No problems since.

Drilling holes should solve your problem without removing the housings. It is a legit thing to fail your inspection for though most stations aren't that picky and don't check for that.

Try another station or drill holes for drain.
