    Red Stag Taxidermy Advice

I am going on a stag hunt in NZ in April, and am looking for the right form and a taxidermist to do the work. Right now Im leaning towards a wall pedestal by a guy up in Montana, but it's going to cost me a fortune to have it shipped down to Houston.

Post pics if you have a stag mount you're proud of, or if you're a taxidermist, give me your thoughts or pictures of any work you've done on a red deer.

    Thanks in advance!

May I suggest you make a trip up to the Woodlands and check out the Houston Safari Club event at the convention center up there...

BTW - not sure if there is a wall pedestal for red deer. I am getting something like that done custom on my elk. Anything is possible for the $$$.

        More NZ trophies by Conroe.

They will also deliver and hang them for you. What outfitter are you going with.

Here is what I want right now. I had plans to go to the convention, but I am going to hunt for the last weekend of buck season instead.

That is gorgeous, Dlove. I am hunting with Paul Bamber at Wanganui Safaris.

Thats who we hunted with. He has a beautiful place and plenty of quality stags. We went in mid april of 07 and caught the roar in full swing. You could leave the door cracked and hear stags roaring and fallow snorting all night long. You are going to have a great time.

Check out Palermo in Bryan. It's an easy drive from Houston.

He's not cheap, but he's really good. I saw a red stag in his shop when I dropped off my African animals....it looked good!

Cool, I need ideas as well for my stag. I am dropping mine off at taxidermist on Friday!!!! I am leaning to a pedestal mount.

Agree, shipping cost was pricey but probably inline with cost for African trophies at least I think.

You guys are making me want to go back Best of luck and keep us posted with lots of pics.

How did you come across a taxidermist in Montana? If you just gotta use him, have him make the antlers detachable. This will save a ton on shipping, and will make getting a really big one into your house easier.

I would do a little research on a taxidermist in Texas. Someone suggested Allen Palermo, he's pretty good. Or look into Josh aka "Rooster" on here.

Actually I was google imaging red stag mounts and came across the one I posted. That directed me to his website and he's really good. I just dont know if it's worth the $750 to ship it down here.

Like I said, if you just gotta have that Montana guy mount it...then just have him make the horns removable. It shouldn't cost near $750 to ship it. But I think you can find a taxidermist here that is as good or better on quality.
