Droid X questions as a wireless hot spot???

I am canceling my home internet service since I got a broadband router for a USB broadband card. But when I am out of town I need a backup plan for internet for my wife at home. I have priced the mobile broadband plans and don't really care for a cap on data usage. If I go with a phone I can get and unlimited data plan and use it as a modem and a 2nd phone.

My question is what kind of speed you are seeing using the Droid as a modem. I am getting around 1.5 mbps out of my verizon broadband card so if I could get close to that I think I would go with a phone over a 2nd broadband card...

Not that fast plus you have to pay an additional $20 a month to use it. AND it kills your battery. You pretty much need to keep the phone plugged in to use the hotspot. I love the Driod X but the hotspot feature is a ripoff IMO. Good luck!

I look into a Droid Forum, looks like you can root it an do what you want to with it with the extra fee...
