    Danger - H Scouting

We went up to the H for a few hours of scouting this morning. There is still under water, so quite a few areas were not really all that accessible.

    Just a reminder........

..... watch out for the snakes. We saw quite a few water moccasins around the creeks, and places where the water was high. I nearly stepped on this little guy. Yikes! That second shot is a bit blurry, because I was, uh, shaking!

We saw about 50 turkeys all day. BTW, does anyone know if you can harvest a Turkey at H? I am thinking not, but I am not sure.

Oh yeah, we did not see any deer, but like they say, "there ain't no deer at ......"

Yeah, I have heard the snakes are getting bad. When all this water is out of here they are just going to get worse!

Grayson County doesn't even have a full turkey season. It's April 1 - April 30 only, so I'm guessing you can't kill one at Hagerman during a fall hunt. I know you can't kill one outside of the refuge in Grayson County during a fall hunt.

Snakes are very bad up there. In the summer months as you have found out it can get down right spooky. I ALWAYS wear a good pair of snake chaps.Be very careful!!!!

        No turkey hunting allowed.

Be careful boys and girls. Water has filled up many of their hiding and hunting spots so those bad boys are on the move.

There are no snakes at H...as a matter of fact they should shorten the name to Hagerman National Refuge because there is no Wildlife there at all

That is a BIG Cottonmouth. They are so bad where I hunt that you can be extremely preoccupied watching out for them rather than deer. Wear snake boots, it will help you concentrate on deer hunting. They'll be gone by late Oct. usually.
