    They should make open carry an available carry option for CHL holders in Texas, I would much rater carry a full frame longer sight radius, larger magazine, for faster target acquisition and ease of double and triple tap you get with a full size handgun over a tiny pocket pistol. I personally would still carry that full size semi concealed, shirt un-tucked but with no fear of some little old lady in the restaurant your dining calling the cops because your weapon is printing when you sitting down.

    Current Summer carry is a Kahr CW40 and in the winter a Glock 30 both IWB in Crossbreed holsters.

      You are considered traveling when in your vehicle. I meant to clarify that, sorry.

        The motorist protection act of 2005 has absolutely nothing to do with traveling.

        It allows to carry a concealed handgun in your vehicle as long as your are not committing a crime any more than a class c misdemeanor among a couple of other things.

        There were too many rogue dist attorneys and Leo that were still arresting people for having concealed handguns in their vehicles so the mpa of 2005 was passed by the legislature.

          The only way to carry IMO is condition 1 or ready to go depending on the weapon. I would never even consider carrying a weapon that's not ready to use immediately. In that condition you basically have a club.

            Tomkat, don't take this the wrong way but you appear to not know what the law is and are giving out incorrect info. Please do some reading on the laws before handing out advice.

            And there is no gun registration in Texas.

                I believe they register guns when you buy them.

                  This is the way the law is written.

                  The definition of "traveling," for the exemption from a charge of illegal carry under 46.15(b)(3), is this:

                  A person is presumed to be traveling if the person is:
                  (1) in a private motor vehicle;
                  (2) not otherwise engaged in criminal activity, other than a Class C misdemeanor that is a violation of a law or ordinance regulating traffic;
                  (3) not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing a firearm;
                  (4) not a member of a criminal street gang, as defined by Section 71.01; and
                  (5) not carrying a handgun in plain view.

                    Nope, the 4473 goes into the selling FFL's files to be kept. It goes no further.

                      That's the old law. Traveling was never defined so they changed it. Basically the same verbiage as to what you can't be doing but removed the traveling portion.

                      Motorists Protection Act • HB 1815
                      “Concealed Handguns in Vehicles OK” -- “Traveling” law confusion a thing of the past.

                      The offense of illegally carrying a handgun, illegal knife or club has been removed from law if you are on your own premises, premises under your control, or inside or directly enroute to a motor vehicle you own or is under your control. The weapons remain illegal if you intentionally, knowingly or recklessly carry them in plain view in a motor vehicle, or are involved in certain criminal activity, are in a criminal gang, or cannot legally possess a firearm. This new law ends decades of legal abuse of innocent citizens under deceptive “traveling” rules, affirmative defenses, prosecutorial discretion, denials of civil rights and traps for the unwary.

                      Texas thus becomes the fourth state to recognize Freedom to Carry (FTC) -- concealed carry with no permit -- at least under the narrow circumstances of in vehicles and on your premises. (The other three are Vermont, Alaska, and Montana outside of city limits. Arizona recognizes FTC in your home, business and on land you own or lease.) FTC differs from so-called “Right-to-Carry,” which requires a government-issued permit, forms, tests, taxation, fingerprinting, photographing, embedding in state and federal databases and an expiration date, for exercise of “rights.”
                      Passed (5/26/07), Effective date 9/1/07.

                        I agree and you shouldn't have to pay a state agency to say it is ok. I would agree that every 3-5 years you should go and have to shoot a profiency test or review new laws and such? I would be open to that for the overall safety of the general public but that would be it.
