It will help with power and transmission shifting but you will not gain enough mileage increase to offset the need to run higher octane fuel.

Your best bet to increase fuel mileage is to slow down, keep your tires inflated to the max recommended pressure and keep up on all the maintenance. A tonneau cover on the bed can help but again won't pay for itself in fuel mileage savings for a very long time.

Typically, the gas engine tuners increase timing as their primary way to increase power. That means you have to run 89 or 93 octane fuel to avoid detonation. You will get more power and gain a bit of mileage IF you don't take advantage of the new found power.

The real advantages to tuners is the ability to change tire size settings, improve transmission shifting, read trouble codes and the minor increase in power. If you just want one for those reasons then they are worth it.

But you will never save money.
