There is about 200 dollars difference in the same scope between the two models. With my eyes I can bairly see a difference. The only unknown is low light conditions. My question is that is it worth the 200 to go to the vx-III? Note this will be for hunting purposes only.

I bought a scope yesterday, and I looked through the VXII 3x9x40, VX3 3x9x50, Zeiss Conquest 3x9x40, and Conquest 3.5x10x44.
The Vx3 was maybe a little brighter than the VXII, but I didn't think it was sharper or more crisp. I know the Conquest 3x9x40 at $399 is a great deal, but I honestly didn't see a difference between it and the VXII, which was $100 cheaper.
Now the Conquest 3.5x10x44 blew them all away, but it was $250 more than the VXII. Still cheaper than the VX3 though. What I found in my research is that Zeiss really only has the 3x9x40 at $399, then their other scopes jump into the $600+ range. I don't think the VX3 is worth it's price tag over the VXII, so in my limited opinion, the VXII 3x9x40 is a great deal, and if you want more scope than that, just go with a Zeiss.
Your eyes are different than mine, so go look through them an determine what you think is the best for the money. Plenty of good deals on eBay from seller riflescopesusa if you want to get the most out of your dollar.
Good luck!

I have IIs and IIIs and I can't tell a nickel's worth of difference unless morning/afternoon sun is part of the issue. All the hype about "light gathering" is just that-hype. A scope's lenses can't gather light-only transmit what falls upon the front lens. And, if it is that dark, why are we considering a shot?

I was too, as my #1 is stainless. The cheapest I was able to find the silver Zeiss 3x9x40 was $479 from a few sellers on eBay and GunBroker. About $12 in shipping, and you're in it for about $ 490-495. Looks sweet, but I couldn't get past that I was paying $80 more for glass that was otherwise only worth $399 in the black finish. Then when I looked through the VXII, at only $299, i really couldn't justify the cost.
I know I over-analyzed it, and I hope I haven't ruined it for you. I'm an engineer, and we tend to take all the fun out of buying things. It took me two months to pick a bbq pit, and buying the diamond for my wife's engagement ring nearly killed me.

Not sure if that's correct though.

The problem buying good to great scopes, is you can't tell the difference in the stores. The difference comes in at dusk/dawn and at distance. I have a $100.00 simmons the is as bright as my high end in the middle of the day, but not in the same ballpark with low light. I would go with the III if you can.
