    25-06 Ammo?

Thought I would put this out there and see what the brain trust had to say. I'm currently shooting 115gr Supreme Ballistic Silvertips and the last one I shot 3 years ago ended with the case stuck in the chamber. I'm really interested in the Hunting Shacks with the berger bullet, but I would like to know what y'all shoot and why. I will only be hunting for deer and hogs. Thanks in advance for any info.

I have shot only the Winny Ballistic tips and never had a single problem. They pattern better than any other factory load and I have yet to lose an animal shot with them. Of all the deer and hogs that I have taken with them, only one has made it more than 5' after the shot.

Berger VLD's is what I loaded when I had my 25. I liked them, very accurate. Can't remember the recipe, but if you go to their website and email them, they will gladly give you some recipe's.

I haven't loaded in awhile, but I plan on loading some VLD's this summer for the .308 and possibly 7mm-08. As of now when I pull out a rifle, I'm using store bought Winchester Silvertips (my rifle's love them). I do have a .243 that likes nothing but cheap old Remington ammo., but I haven't experimented a bunch with that rifle.

My Sako loves the Hornady Superformance SST in 130 Grain for my .270 - You can also get Hornady Superformance in a GMX bullet that is a solid bullet and more comparable to your barnes and the like bullets.

A stuck case might indicate a problem with the rifle, and warrants a look-see by a gunsmith. Those nickel-plated WW Supreme cases should extract better than plain brass cases. I'm currently shooting handloads with 100gr Sierra flat-base spitzers, and developing loads for Nosler 110gr Accubonds. I've shot plain-vanilla Remington 100gr Core Lokts to sight in the gun and retain the cases for handloading, and they actually are pretty accurate in my gun (Remington 700/Shilen barrel). I used them as a primary load early in the season before my handloads were developed, and wouldn't have a problem with 'em on deer and hogs out to 300 yards. They did chronograph slower than I expected, at about 3150fps when I was expecting closer to 3300.

Been shooting Winchester CXP1's in 90gr with mine the last few years and it does the trick... They leave a ragged one hole at 100yds... Even on bigger animals, took a #250 Sika buck with it and he didn't make it 15yds... All of other animals have fallen in their tracks!!! Me, the wife and kids have been hunting with this rifle and bullet combo the last 3-4 years and have taken several animals as stated before!

Thanks guys, keep it coming. I don't handload, so I'm interested in factory loadings and terminal performance.

Isn't Hornady doing a 105 gr load with the GMX? (Barnes-X knock off) That would be an great round IMO.

Accurate and leaves fist size exit holes on hogs

I thought the cxp-1 bullets were for varmints?

I have been shooting a load I worked up with the Hornady 117grn that I have been very pleased with. But, I admit that I picked up a box of VLDs to start working on a new load to give them a try.

Sorry just noticed that you don't load. Hornady makes a factory "Custom Load" with the same 117grn. bullet.
