    Daggum!!! Another Bad Shot???

I posted a thread earlier about the "last minute" buck I shot yesterday evening, the last day of deer season for me. So I had a 16 yd shot. Hit the bottom side of his spine. He dropped right there but still goin on his front in. So I had to take a 2nd shot. Right after that shot, he got hung up on a yaphon bush and I could see my arrow stickin out from his gut. So I grabbed a 3rd arrow and drew back but let off after the deer did not move. It appeared he had expired. I gave him a few more mins and after nuthin more, I climbed down. Once I got to the deer, thinking the 2nd shot was a terrible shot, I found it was a perfect shot. As the deer was crawlin away, he was quartered away. I slid that arrow just behind the 3rd rib on his left side and hit the inside of his right leg. Right thru the heart!!! Seems here lately, on the last few kills (a lot on hogs) it looks like the shot placement was horrible but upon recovery, I find it couldn't have been made any better. I don't know why, maybe my ole eyes, or just the arrow stickin out playin an optical illusion. Just wondering if anybody else "seeing" the same thing?
Might explain why some say ''I made a perfect shot, but never found it" cuz the fletchin stickin out is playin tricks on the ole eyes!!!
I swear, last few kills, I just scratch my head. The whole time I thought the shot was bad, it turns out to be great!!

Sometimes I feel like I should just hang it up but when I get to the animal, I'm high fiving myself!!! Maybe lighted nocks will help me see things better!!

You cant get better advise than this! I spine shot a doe about 7/8 years ago. I swore to myself from then on High percentage shots only. I don't care how big a set of antlers. if they don't offer me at least a slight quartering away or broadside shot they get a pass. I take more pride in making a great shot than holding a set of horns. glad it worked out for you. Oh as far as lighted knocks. I killed a cull buck last week with a Nocturnal, they are definitely on my list from now on.

This is what I always do. When a deer or hog is broadside, 99% of the time I get a complete pass thru. If I shoot one quartered away, it usually hits the opposite shoulder or base of neck and chest area and not a complete pass thru, thus leaving part of the arrow and fletching stickin out. Then as it runs off, it looks as though it's a "bad" shot. Most of the time, this all happens in dim low light, either at daybreak or right at sunset. I guess it's just an optical illusion for me. I was looking to see if anybody else here had seen or experienced what I'm seeing.
And if ya haven't, maybe yall are just youngsters and still have good eye sight!!!
