    Computer Problem

Apparently I got a virus just after my virus protection ran out. I am trying to install the new virus protection now but whatever virus I have will not let me open the cd drive to install the new anti virus software. So what do I do? I know nothing about computers either.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I think what he meant to say was that you can download AVG antivirus for free (thus eliminating the need to open the cd drive). Try that and if that works, then you may try to load the disc (or return it). I'm not as familiar with virus protection software for PC's since I switched to Mac 3 years ago, but AVG was the best free antivirus out there a couple of years ago when I was a bit more of a computer wiz

it helps if you know what virus you have. Some tools work better for different infections

this is the end all as of this writing....

ok, if you can get online, download combofix from combofix.org (if you can't get online, get to a computer that can get online, download combofix and put on a usb flash drive or cd or whatever other means of removable media you have)

                DISABLE system restore first

run the combofix, you might have to uninstall the antivirus you have (which obviously did not work anyway) before you can run combofix.

after running combofix, reboot, see if you can get online, if you can, download and install and run full scans:

http://free.avg.com (read through carefully so you can get to the free AVG and not the pay version)

malwarebytes from malwarebytes.org, run a FULL scan

                superantispyware from superantispyware.com

you can also go to housecall.antivirus.com

lastly, for the full train, hitman pro from download.com

you should run these all until they have been run a full time around and not found anything...ie, if one finds something, do what it says then reboot, then run it again..when each finds nothing, they are as good as can be done currently

My computer will not let me download ANYTHING at all!

                  Disable system restore... How?

This is the only computer I have access to.

Tired to get the AVG thing and it will not download.

I think I might just might go throw this off an overpass. All this stuff is french to me and I cant afford to have someone else fix it.

I dont know. This is the longest it has let me stay on

But somehow and I have no idea how it let me install the antivirus I just bought?

This is why I hate computers.
