    D.R. Horton Homes?

Anyone live in or have any experience with these homes? Looked at some in the Frisco area and thought they looked very nice.

I am a recent college grad so I am not looking for custom homes at 500k. The neighborhood I was in was The Reserve at Westridge and I saw a few different styled I liked. Fairly priced and pleasing to the eye

How about the lifeline of these homes....

Our first home was a DR Horton, it was a great house, never gave us problems. Also, they worked alot with us on price and we're able to throw in alot of extras once we got a price negotiated.

They are a great builder and Company. You can't go wrong with DR Horton. I think they are the biggest builder in the country.

they are large because of their ability to cut costs....so, you have to know what you are buying into....there are ways to cut corners and hide it and they do...after having to deal with them on their crappy driveway and sidewalk work....I will never buy another....they will not own up to the crappy work their undocumented workers do....my driveway had no mesh nor rebar between the pads....they are all floating independently...in one place there is a good 1.5 gap between two.....they blamed the movement on a drought which we did not have but the fact that there was no mesh connecting the slabs did not matter....worthless bastages if you ask me....I am sure they make some quality stuff...that is not the issue....the issue is getting things taken care of under warranty....

Ask him if you can hunt his ranch out in Pecos County. Tell him you just want one of those HUGE elk he has high fenced

my mom bought one of their houses, and i thought it was a nice house untill i climbed up in the attic. None of the boards were flush. Looked like they were pre cut and to short, but used them anyways.

I live in a DR Horton house now in Round Rock. If I were you, I'd definitely avoid them. Several years ago they were a fairly high end builder that did a lot of custom work. We just finished a 3 month fight with them. The ceiling in the living room had seperated where it was taped and was starting to fall in. This is after only 3 years. When I contacted them they said sorry, the warranty is one year. I explained that I didn't care what their warranty was, I had a 3 year old house that the ceiling was caving in. They wouldn't budge on their stance for a long time. A good friend of mine is a fairly well known Realtor in the Austin area. I had told him what happened and he mentioned it to one of the on site agents at a neighborhood in Round Rock. He informed her that he was telling his clients the problems I was having with DR Horton and they decided they didn't even want to look at their homes. He used to sell at one a month. Once word got back to the corparate office what was going on, they fixed my ceiling. I tell everyone I know to avoid DR Horton like the plague.

I framed houses for the a company for about fifteen years (1000-1500) per year, they were bought by DR Horton and the screws started tightening. It was no longer about you would give them the best product for the money, it was about who was the cheapest.

They may have a few good ones, but they are track homes just like all the other volume builders. If you want to get the most for your money, find a neighborhood that is well established with homes built by smaller companies. There are still some out there. The problem with buying in a new neighborhood is if you need to sell for some reason and the subdivison is still building, why would anyone buy your used home if they can get a "pretty new one"? Personally, I would not buy a track home house and stay in it for more than five years at the most. You will be able to tell where costs were cut by then. Think about it this way, if they can save $100.00 on something, that's a lot of benjamins they can keep for themselves. I'm not knocking making profits, but your quality has got to back up your company. Just my .02.

I have seen them in our market but they tend to be lower-end from what I have seen.

DR Horton seems to depend on where and when it was built. They just bought a bunch of lots in my neighborhood and built on about 5 of them. They went up extremely fast - which is not always a good thing.

Whatever you choose, make sure to get a good home inspector to check the house out. Especially on new construction
