I had the opportunity eariler in the year to hunt this ranch in Hamilton County with my son when he took his best deer, a big management 8pt. While we were there we spotted
a deer and he was a big 10 pt that the owner let my son name BullCrusher. I fell in love with this deer and told them if things worked out and and was he still around I would like to come back at the end of the season and try and take him. Well they have been keeping in touch and the bad news was he broke his
right G2 off but he was still around and if I wanted him they would make me a bargain on the deer and help me match the broken tine up with a shed. This deer was 5 1/2 and had short brows so they wanted him gone. When we were
there the first time we watch him breed a doe and he was pretty much the boss buck in the area. Well the first mornings hunt we saw him out in the oat field and watched him chasing a doe. The second rut has hit and the deer are chasing. I was also wanting to check out several other deer so I watch him run a doe out of the field right in front of us not 20 yards man I wish they
allowed bowhunting on this ranch. Anyway he is usually a regular on the field so we are thinking no big deal. Well we hunted the next three hunts without seeing him and after seeing several other deer I was sure he was the one to take. New Years day morning still a no show and I was only going to have one more chance that evening. We went back out after mid morning breakfast
and went rattling to see what we get bring in and maybe draw him out. We saw several bucks but not him. We cruised back by the oat field to take a look and maybe shoot a doe that the owners we wanting us to take a few of. My buddy Kurt who was with me was about to take one when he noticed a good deer at the edge of the field by a cedar tree. It was him but he took off. Well we backed out and decided to give it a break and come back in a couple of hours around 3pm. Well we got in the blind at 3 and set the feeder off with a remote and in about 15 min he came out following a doe. A couple of other bucks we out there also and he wouldn't stop to give a good shot
for trying to keep them away from his lady friend. Well he finally settled down and turned and gave me a quartering away shot at 140 yrds and the 150gr SST.308 found its mark. Its the best buck I have ever taken and what a way to start off the New Year.
