Deer eyes open, hog eyes closed?

The son of one of my leasemates asked this question and I do not know the answer. I think I've seen it discussed here but I couldn't find it doing a search. The question - why do deer die always with their eyes open and hogs sometimes die with their eyes closed?

eyes look open to me...

I got more if you need em. I dont have any pics with dead pigs eyes shut... I have killed quite a few over the last few years. havent noticed them shut once.

Hmmmm, lots of pics of dead pigs with eyes open. But, for example check out the one posted just today in the thread "Big Mama" Maybe it has to do with how quickly they die? Blasted with a rifle while alert the eyes stay open - arrowed then off to lay down and bleed-out they close? All I know is I seen alot of dead pigs that just looked like they were sleeping (except for the gaping holes, blood, etc)

I know hog dude has allot of LDP's with arrowed hogs... maybe he can add his .02...

next one I arrow I will take note, and some pics of how the eyes are when found (hopefully this weekend)

I dont know man. a few of his pics the eyes do look closed, but others are open...

Maybe it just depends on like you said... the shot. was it something that killed them quickly while they were trying to run away or was the shot something they layed down from and closed their eyes and then died?

I dont know.
