Trey and I have been doing a little calling lately. I have called up several yotes and a couple bobcats with my mouth caller over the years...but have not tried in some time. We went the other evening and it was very windy and we didnt call anything up... had a great time however.

yesterday when I got home from work, several kids were in the yard playing...some cousins and kids my wife babysits were there as well... I was in my slacks and dress shirt throwing the football with Trey and my nephew when I heard the dogs start wimpering and acting weird...looked out by the cows in the pasture and at the edge of the woods was a big coyote. My parents had saw him down there a couple days before as well. I grabbed my 25-06 out of my truck that is in there for yotes and braced on the yard post and shot about 150 yrds at the yote. He reacted as hit, but still ran off. I guess I either grazed him or gut shot him... never recovered him.
Last night Trey and I sat up in barn and used a remote digital caller. Within 5 mins of calling.... this precious gift came out. I wasnt sure what it was - either a fox (lots of greys around) or a small yote...but I knew it was one of the two. It was over 200 yrds away and we were in top of hay loft of barn. Trey held the light and I nailed it with 25-06. Long shot across the pasture and over our pond.
I was really shocked to see it was a red fox... many people think a grey fox is a red fox because of all the red around neck- but this was the real deal. mature adult female.... dark legs, white tip tailed. softest fur I have ever touched..

here is the light I used...father in law gave it to me for Christmas- Kill light w green lense. Comes with 2 rechargable batteries- only uses one battery at a time. Has an adaptor for 3 triple a's and a screw on cap with stud for stabalizer hole with pressure swith and another click on off switch. Amazing light! Lit this fox up over 200 yrds away enough for shot.

I have caught a male on the TC about a mile from where I shot this female. The male has heavy white underside that goes all the way to hind legs. Beautiful

side note- my grandfather that originally owned the farm liked to fox hunt. All the people around here didnt believe him when he told them he was seeing red foxes. He finally killed one with his dogs hunting and all of them gathered at the little baptist church down the road to see this red fox. None had ever seen one in this area. I occasionally see them run over on fm 1488. I shot one when I was very young spot lighting with my dad but we thought I missed and found it a couple days later after already ruined..
This one is already at the taxidermist.
