How long does venison last in the freezer?

What is the longest anyone would still eat venison hamburger meat out of the freezer and not showing any signs of freezer burn?

Just pulled out a pack that I am pretty sure is from last January but could be from two years ago

We ate 3 year old backstrap 2 weekends ago and you couldn't tell the difference in the 30 day old stuff. By the way, it had gotten lost in the freezer.

        Paper wrapped or vacuum sealed?

If there's no freezer burn, then it's safe. I still eat my wife's elk from 3 or 4 years ago that we vacuum sealed and its delicious.

Trim off the brown freezer burn. The red stuff is still good.

It depends on how it was packaged. I bought a vacuum sealer last year the the meat I put in the freezer last Jan is as good now as the day I put it in there. If it is in freezer paper or baggies it might not be so good.

We've eaten steaks as well as ground venison as old as 3 years with no problems. As long as it was packaged good there should not be a problem.
