help plz deer hit

my good friend shot a good buck this evening right at dark he backed out for 2.5 hrs cause when he found his arrow it had hair and pink meat on it what does this mean it was the first deer he has shot at i think he might of shot it in the hind quarter will it die and where is the best place to look bottom areas water?

If he hit it in the hind qtr and did not catch the artery then the deer will live. If he had caught the artery the buck would have bled out within 100 yards.

All depends. If he's confident he hit him in the rear that will probably be a fatal shot. Give the deer the night and search tomorrow. He could have shot high and back strapped the deer which probably would not kill the deer. Either way not much you can do besides give it time and search for blood or trails.

What color was the hair? A high back hit will have dark hair and have more of a meat smear on the arrow, not much if any blood.
