9mm performance is highly dependent on velocity. Some of the best performers are the lighter 115gr loads. You want to stay away from the old Federal Hydroshocks. When I researched what I carry in my 9mm I settled on the following: Remington Golder Saber, Corbon DPX, Ranger-T, and Speer Gold Dots. All in +P. You can actually get the Gold Dot in +P+ if the gun is rated for it. The Ranger and Speer loads both have good records among law enforcement for getting the job done.

If she will be using for Home Defense then maybe look into this: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/73103-5.html.

Winchester Ranger 9mm T-Series 127gr +P+. If you can find it. Next to that go with a 115gr to 127gr good quality defensive ammo. Almost all of the newer desigh definsive ammo gives good results. Stay away from the 147gr lodes. They are designed as 9mm carbine loads mainly and usualy fail to expand at pistol valosity

1) Practice
2) Winchester Ranger T
3) Hornady Critical Defense
Whatever you buy, get 100 rounds extra and make sure it functions in the gun.
FWIW, my 9mm is loaded with Ranger T, my full size 45 is loaded with Ranger T, and my compact 1911 is loaded with Hornady Critical Defense, my 38 snub nose is loaded with Corbon DPX, and my 380 is loaded with Powerball. Like I said above, find the best ammo that will function in your gun.
