    Boss Buck Protein Feeder Question

Right now I'm using my boss buck gravity feeder to feed corn, I'll be switching it to protein this week for the first time. My question is how can I keep the dang thing from emptying itself out on the ground every other week?? I've leveled it and it seems to do fine for a week and then bam the sucker dumps 100-150 lbs on the ground creating a raccoon festival

Protein won't flow out like corn does.

I understand they are going to eat the protein, but I would rather they have to work for it trying to get it out of the spout rather than it raining on them like a coon's wet dream.

The Boss Buck free feeders should have an adjustment to regulate the flow to the heads.

It will.I always mix 100# of corn with my first 100# of protein each January. The corn is a little bigger than the protein. So,if you have it opened to far,it will dump the entire feeder when the corn is gone and only protein remains.Happened to me last January.Be careful on how you set it.Great feeder though.

Feeder holds more lbs of corn than protein, so its the protein that is typically "larger" than the corn. Been using a Boss Buck feeder for 3yrs and have never had ANY issue with protein flowing out of it. Where's the flow adjustment for the BB feeder?

Protein might be heavier but not larger.I have been using the 1200# for many years and last year was the first time I had that problem. The adjustment is on the head itself. There are 2 bolts,1 on each side that allows you to raise/lower the head.I was noticing that the ports were empty and nothing would flow easily so I lowered the head where it would flow.As soon as there was only protein, about a week later, the whole feeder dumped.Just my experience.I will be more careful from now on.

been using a Boss Buck 300# for the last two years with protein and corn. I have never had a problem with it dumping out the feed. The only time I have seen coons at it was when the deer nock out feed on the ground. I do have pics of coons trying to get their lil hands up and pull out feed. I don't think they get much, they usually give up pretty quick. Mine usually last about 3-4 weeks before the deer have it empty. I have been meaning to buy a 1200# but haven't gotten around to it.

Are you using the kind with the three tubes like this one?

If so, take the bolts out of the sides right above the plastic tubes (about 2") and the plastic unit will slide down. The bolts will screw into the tube assembly in other holes. This will narrow the gap between the funnel and the spouts, thus restricting the flow of the corn.

I have the 1200 lb BB feeder and only fill it with protein and never have a problem. I would not put corn in it as when I did it before weevils (sp) got in it for the corn and the deer would not eat it and I had to dump the rest and let the hogs finish eat it and refill it with just protein. From then on only protein and the deer do fine. I like when the does knock some out on the ground for this years fawns to eat. Gets them started on it.

Oh, very few coons can get on it if it is set to about 40" high at the tubes. I have only had two real big hogs be able to eat out of it. I had to shoot both of them off of it but most cannot reach it.

been using Boss Buck feeder for 5 years and have never had feed problems. Coons on the other hand are getting fat at my expense. Usually trap 20 coons from feed area before they catch on and stop robbing the feed
