    Questions on turkeys

I actually have two questions. First does anyone have a good picture of the vitals for a turkey that is broadside and facing you?

Second is what is the "easiest" way to clean one?

Thanks for the help. This site has offered more insight to me personally that I can repay. Keep up the good work guys and gals!!

I have a word document that contains pictures and descriptions of the different aim points. I can't figure out how to post it here, so email me and I'll send it to you.

Honestly, if your bowhunting just hit him in the body with a mechanical and he will die. A fixed blade works also but they leave no blood trail and the arrow will sometimes blow through them and they can fly off or get out of site. The mechanical hits harder making it a higher % recovery with bows. Shotgun aim at the head. Rifle pretty much anywhere. Skinning a turkey is easy. Cut down the center and run your fingers inside the skin to peel away. Seperate wings, tail and neck off and your done.

Never tried it but the results are deadly!

I've also heard to aim for the "hips" -- the middle of the body above the legs.
Doesn't kill them but stops them dead. Never done it. I hope to be chasing turkeys in the spring!

My only advice is sometimes the wing can be deceptive as to where the viatals are and make the body look bigger or smaller. I have made mistakes because of the deceptive wing a few times.

Hot4huntin's picture is good. But aim at that spot and not the bottom of the wing. I usually aim a little up and left from that spot, but that will take it out especially if you have a 2 3/4 inch cutting diameter.

                  Forgot-

Sometimes I just breast out the turkey and other I will skin it(feather it) like a deer and keep the body/legs intact. not sure if this helps- i have pix if needed

Never shoot at a turkey in full strut.

If a turkey is broadside, aim for the "hips" right above the legs.

If a turkey is facing you with its head down, drill him right behind the neck.

                        Don't forget--Proof of sex:

for turkeys in counties where the bag composition is restricted to gobblers and/or bearded hens, a male turkey is required to have one leg, including the spur, attached to the bird; or the bird, accompanied by a patch of skin with breast feathers and beard attached. A female turkey taken during the fall season must be accompanied by a patch of skin with breast feathers and beard attached.

So I guess I don't aim here? Do I just aim for the hips? I would rather see it die on its own than have to do battle with it.

I shot one last week, my arrow blew through him, he cartwheeled and went about 20yrds and hunkered down by a tree. The other turkeys came back to eat and when they left, he got up and followed them off. Found pooled blood and when he walked away (no shot) I could see feathers all messed up.

Never found him-sure he's dead but I"m seeking revenge on his clan.

Hope you have better luck than me!
