Need Opinions...Nook or Kindle???

Thinking of getting the wife one of these for xmas. She loves to read books and has mentioned them before. They both look around the same price and specs, so was wondering who has which ones and whats better. Also, is it worth the extra $$$ for the color version of the Kindle? Thanks and Merrry Xmas!!

Not to hijack, but how do books work on these. Thought about getting my mom one. She loves to read, but goes to the library. Books I have seen are around $10. She reads like 4 a week

I went with the Kindle myself....... I like the fact I can buy a case with built in light instead of haveing a bulky add on light.

I read alot and just got the nook. Both are roughly the same price and options. I would stay away form the color versions of each. The battery life is <8 hours on them and they are harder on your eyes. The original versions are easier to "read".

I think either are fine, but I purchased the Kindle for my wife. She has not used it yet (Christmas present), but I did a lot of research. I went with the Kindle mostly becuase I know some owners who like them.

TexasBob, I dont know much either but I think they are bssically like a laptop/phone to connect to internet with, then you can basically purchase any book that you could buy in a store and download it to your "nook or kindle". Been told books are cheaper to buy on these and obviously you dont have 100s of them on your shelf at home....these devices can store 1000s of books at a time on them. Thanks for input everyone.

I bought my girlfriend the Nook. She loves it. She likes the fact that you can take it in to Barnes and Noble and get help or use it on their WiFi to read books for free while in the store. The Kindle is only available through Amazon and we were not able to go look at one in person before buying it. We did not like that. She liked the fact that she could go in to Barnes and Noble and actually look at one and have all her questions answered.

I got my wife the 3G Kindle for Christmas...I liked the fact that she could sync it after reading and leave it at home...if she got stuck in line somewhere she could pick up reading exactly where she left off on her iphone...

Target and Best buy carry Kindle, too. Well when they aren't SOLD OUT !!

My wife wants a Kindle, the Nooks and Sonys are in stock but Kindle are sold out......wonder why? Are Kindles that much better, or just more popular ?

Spur of the moment decision...
I wanted to get it so she can use it during our Xmas travels, (leaving tomorrow). But haven't been able to find one in stores this week, no time for online purchase.

With the Nook you can replace the battery without sending it in for repair. That alone sold me as I have yet to find a electric appliance with a battery that lasts forever.
