Last night when I went to get on my computer, I clicked on the internet for a trip to the green screen. First thing I did was go on a search on Yahoo (I believe) for something and clicked on a link. As I was directed to the link something happened I get a small box pop up that has a header that says "Internet Expolorer has stopped working" and goes on to say "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I close the window and sometimes it comes right back up and sometimes not, but every time I try to start the internet I get this. I turned my computer off several times and restarted it and still get the same thing. E-mail works fine. Does this sound like I have been zapped by a virus or is it something else. Can anybody help me figure this out.

Sounds like spyware/adware/malware to me. Fixing it is another issue. You'll have to identify it to fix it.
Do you have a malware/spyware detection/removal tool? Microsoft Essentials has a rudimentary tool that might be able to help you.
If you can still browse the internet, go download Mozilla and/or Google Chrome for a browser and install it. Use that browser to try to fix your other one.

Once completed, if you can get online, immediately go to firefox.com and download the firefox browser or google.com/chrome and download Chrome. Both of these browsers allow add-on application and from there you can add no-script and adblock (but allow on the green screen). This will be a much safer way to surf the web.

or just set automatic updates do check but not download, wait about 20 minutes or so, it should ask if you want to do express or custom...technically for home users you should be safe with the express, it will download whatever and install the updates...might need several bites at the apple so there might be updates to fix some of the other updates....
Alternatively you could get someone to download firefox or chrome on another computer and put it on a memory stick or cd for you, put it on this computer and install...then fix the exploder issue...
if not just a windows/exploder issue that could possibly be solved by updates, download combofix from combofix.org, avg from grisoft.com, hitman pro, super antispyware, malwarebytes...all are free and can be used to clean your computer if you think you have a critter....and really, everyone probably does...

Thanks for all the help guys, but my other half decided to take it in to get looked at by a professional before I could stop her. She didn't like the fact that I came to bed mad last night because I couldn't get on the internet and didn't want to listen to me whining this evening if nothing worked. Luckily she took it to a place where I know everybody and our company has done business with them alot so maybe it won't break the bank.
