This weekend I shot my biggest horned deer ever, it was a 10 point. Me being a meat hunter didn’t think anything about cutting it off at the head and boiling it out when I got home. Now that I have showed a couple friends they say I should have shoulder mounted it.

I was told today that taxidermists can sell me an extra hide for a little extra and mount it as a full shoulder mount. Well I cut away the bottom jaw and left it where I was hunting so it could be used for aging future deer.

Well I boiled out the skull, is it too late to mount it or should I just be happy with my trophy as an European mount?

No it is not too late, they dont use the skull for the mount, just have to get a cape from the taxi

You can still have a shoulder mount done. Good thing about doing a euro first.

Not too late all you need is the upper portion of the skull and can buy a cape

Congratulations on the buck. You will remember it as long as you live. IMO I believe you should Euro mount it. I Euro mounted my first bow kill ... a nice big 8 point I shot at 30 yards near Comfort, TX. It will still be a trophy no matter what. When you tell the story of your hunt and your kill, the proof will still be just a pretty. Put a nice engraved gold plaque on it that contains your name, ranch name, and the date you shot it. Perhaps a photo of the deer on the back?

gorgeous buck, he looks good as is, but if it was my first of biggest, I would definately shoulder mount him. Most taxidermist will provide you a cape for $25-50 bucks.
