I must be getting crotchety in my old age...

I remember growing up and getting what you paid for. When did we get so cheap? Just ordered a bacon egg and cheese taquito from whataburger and asked them to add extra bacon. Got my order and I swear this thing would not make a good kids meal. Literally less than a whole egg in there and ONE strip of the puniest bacon I have ever seen. The tortilla folded over twice because there was not much filling.

I figured I got the wrong order so I look at my receipt and it shows a .39 charge for the extra bacon. I also got an orange juice with it and this was the worse 4.68 breakfast I have ever had.

I'm tired of the fluff. You know what I am talking about! When you order at a Mexican restaurant and half the plate is filled with rice because it is cheap and get one enchilada. When you get a sandwich at Alvin Ords and you get one slice of the thinnest ham and a half a bag of lettuce. GIVE ME SOME MEAT!!!

It doesn't stop at fast food either. Picked up donuts for the family a while back and bought one of the bottles of milk a little bigger than the small cartons. It was 2.79!!! Ridiculous!!! A whole gallon is not much more than that.

Thanks for letting me rant!... Tired of not getting my moneys worth.

It goes way deeper than that Jeff. I was flipping thru the news a while back and they were showing how many of the everyday products on the store shelves were changing amounts in the containers. The price stayed the same, the actual containers stayed the same, but they were putting less product in the container. As an example, the showed some liquid dishwashing soap. They had a container from a few months ago and one right off the shelf. They were the same price, in the same container, but the "old" one had 24 ozs in it, the current one only had 20 ozs in it. They showed dozens of examples ranging from dish soap to potato chips. They even showed some of the products that were supposed "price roll backs" from a major chain that the prices did drop, but so did the amount of actual product you got. Fine print is a booger.

Its a sign of our economic times guys......Id get used to it cause it isnt going to change any time soon. Fortunately if ya know where to look (mom and pop businesses) you can still find a good honest deal/meal around town. We have a couple places close to our lease near Miles/Rowena that have GREAT cheap food and a good cheap butcher shop at local grocer where ya can still get a HUGE t-bone or Ribeye for $6-7.00

Support your LOCAL small businessman THEY are the backbone of every community NOT a dang chain store that is about as impersonable as it gets. Even when ya do bring something to their attention the pimpley teenage kid behind the counter could NOT care any less about you or your issue and your probably interupting their TEXT messages anyway.

First off you shouldn't be getting tacos from whataburger...a real taco should be full and loaded with so much bacon grease that right after you eat it nature should be calling

I agree that things are getting more expensive and we are getting less quality than before. I do have to take issue with the "support your local businessman" comment though. I try to shop at local businesses as often as I can and have no problem supporting them. You have to remember that Whataburger was started as a single restaurant in Corpus and it has now grown into a large chain. I don't like punishing a guy from Texas who had a great idea and it has turned into a very sucessful business. Just my .02

That was a long time ago and they are far from a local mom and pop. To each his own.

I got a friend who works as a supply chain guru. He has worked for dryers ice cream, proctor and gamble , currently with frito lay. His sole job is creating containers for products to put less product in them, but for them to appear larger or at least the same size. He is always getting am ear full from everyone..

The guy who started that small business turned it into a BIG business and it OBVIOUSLY isnt what it used to be or the original post wouldnt even be here. I wasnt implying that you should NEVER go to a chain restaraunt, just remember ya get what ya pay for. You know your NOT gonna get a big overflowing bag of food for a few bucks from a fast food joint period. But I can go to at least a dozen small places minutes from my house and get a great meal for same price and get twice as much food and have someone serve me to boot.

I'll go small business every single time. Plus I usually get to have a nice conversation with hard working folks while I wait for my meal from people that appreciate MY business rather than some smart *** MTV generation kid that just wants to get paid and couldnt care whether I spent my cash there or not.

Early one morning I swung into a McDonald's drive thru for a cup of coffee and quickie breakfast thing. Nobody came onto the speaker so I pulled around and found the gal at the window sound asleep in her chair. Heck, my old 7.3 powerstroke didn't even wake her when I pulled up. So I just layed on the horn, and then drove off. I still laugh about the look on her face. Best trip to Mickey Dee's ever ... and it was my last.

Another good example of why I dont go to these places...thx for sharing.

BTW, I cant even remember when the last time I DID go to a fast food Drive Thru where they DIDNT screw up my order. The frustration isnt worth the "covenience" or the money IMO. AND last time I went to Mc.D's I got food poisoning and ended up in hopital for 2 days!
