    Anybody Here Smoke A Pipe?

I've been smoking a pipe somewhat regularly for about 5 years now. I have a few fairly nice pipes, but nothing really "high end". I've always wondered if a really nice pipe smokes better than standard $30-50 pipes. I've thought about getting myself a really well made, name brand (Savanelli, Stanwell, Butz Choiqin) pipe for Christmas, but I'm wondering if it's worth it.

    Here's what I currently have.

    Top to bottom:

    1. Alpha Esprit
    2. Peterson Shamrock
    3. Velani Corona Supreme
    4. Venini

Would spending the money to get a nicer pipe be worth it?

Its not really the pipe itself, its what you put in the pipe.....

i like peterson they smoke very nice. my brother uses several nice pipes and his favorites are the davidof pipes and they are pricy. the pipe does make the difference but for a novice pipe smoker you probably wouldnt tell the difference.

Haha. You're the "angel" on my left shoulder. Unfortunately, the devil on my right is a lot more vocal.

A couple of the guys at the cigar shop smoke the Savinelli, and really seem to like them.

That's about as far as my pipe expertise goes.

My suggestion, is to get down to the local tobacco / cigar shop, and spend some time with the tobacconist, and explain to him/her what you're looking for, and get some suggestions. Hit up 2-3 shops, and compare your results before making your decision. A good pipe is expensive, but will last a lifetime, as you well know.

I've always said when I turn 40 I'm going to smoke a pipe. That way when somebody asks me a question I can look thoughtful and say, "Hmmm, Mmmm, dear child. Perhaps indeed, perhaps indeed."

I'll be 37 next month and I may just buy myself a pipe. They smell great. I talked to a guy at a humidor in New Braunfels a couple years ago and he said you'd be looking at roughly $100-$150 to get started.

I just started smoking pipes. I only smoke about once a month though. I started buying them as souvenirs when I travel. I bought a Big Ben Champion while I was in Amsterdam, a Chacom Club while I was in Chicago, and ordered myself a Nording Moss F Freehand for Christmas.

I smoked pipes for years, and some of my best smoking pipes weren't always the most expensive. Probably the best of them all, however, was a hand carved mersham I traded a handgun for. As important as the pipe is curing it properly in the beginning. Takes a little time, but well worth it in the long run.

I smoke a Armellini pipe.. and have a corn cob pipe... I cant notice a differance in the 2 pipes ...Ones made in Italy..The other in the midwest ...

As someone said before...Its whats in the pipe... ''I believe the quality of Tobacco is key''

I don't smoke but I love the smell of pipe tobacco.
