    A curious Feeder question

So Im curious how long you let your feeders spin for?

I have a friend that lets his spin for 3 seconds and I told him that wasnt near enough. I let mine spin for 10 seconds. I guess I have always thought wants the point of the deer coming there if they only get a tid bit.

    what about you guys?

mine spins for 12 seconds or so. tried to count this weekend. I throw allot of corn. I will slow it down after deer season so I dont spend as much on corn in the off season.

10 seconds is what mine go for

I should follow up that our lease is covered in oaks and there are acorns everywhere. The deer aren't hitting the feeders much so there is almost always corn on ground. It would be pretty wasteful to spin any more than 3 seconds right now for us

Depends on how much corn the feeder puts out--currently my two active feeders are a 30-gal barrel and a small trash can that holds about 80 lbs of corn. I have both set for 5 seconds and it nearly paints the ground gold. However, I am only 11 miles from the stand so refilling isn't complicated or time consuming. If I was still hunting near Cotulla (2+ hours), I would be using 55 gal feeders but would still want a good spin of corn on the ground, although the hogs usually got way more than the deer.

Most feeders are adjustable for the gap between the spinner plate and the funnel, which is one way to control how much feed is dispensed. Disadvantage to a big gap is the wind in the brush country--can literally empty a feeder in a day, plus if you have 'coon problems (who doesn't?) that makes it easier for them to rob you.

I don't worry about the time it is spinning as the amount it is throwing.....I use 85 gal drums and they will be empty in 30 days....feeding twice in the mornings (sunrise and
~30-45 minutes later) and twice in the evenings (4:00 and 5:00)....

Depends. When the acorns are heavy and the activity is slow at the feeders, I only run mine 2 or 3 seconds twice a day. Then I turn them up anywhere from 7 to 10 when they start hitting them again. When deer season ends I still run them at least 2 seconds twice a day. I like the fawns to hit them young with the does. Keeps them coming back when they grow. Especially the young bucks.

I think it depends on how far you are from your lease and how often you hunt. I hunt 3.5 hours away and set mine to 4 twice a day. But I can only get to the lease every other weekend. So that allows me enough time to make sure the feeder doesn't run out by the time I get back. My feeder camera shows deer there every night.

I set mine to spin 4 times a day
6:45 am before LSL for 2 seconds to make sure their is corn on the ground to keep earlier deer around (watched way to many deer walk away before I can shoot)
                        7:15 am 6 seconds.....

so a total of 8 sec. each morning and afternoon
then same thing in the afternoon, I have seen more deer this season than any other, so I don't know if this plays a part in it or not.. but I will use this type of feeding from now on

10 seconds twice a day during season....

5 seconds twice a day off season.... we dont mind the 100 mile drive to fill em up

Yes, it depends on how much it throws. I have two feeders that I set for 5-6 seconds and it gives me about a month. Got another one that I set for 12-14 seconds and it lasts a month. Different types of feeders.
