    feeder design for next season

Alright here is the design I am looking to build for next season. I have enough material to make 3 of these. the only adjustment I will make is to stack (2) 55 gal barrels on top of each other so I can stay away for longer periods of time.

    Couple of questions before starting...

    1) pro & cons of putting both protein & corn feeder at same location? ( filling will be easier) but will deer be spooked?

    2) What type of spinner should I go with(brand)? 12 v or 6 v motor, I want to use solar panel and remote control accessible. ....I am currently using American Feeders on all my stuff now, but I don't like the radius it throws the corn (just drops the corn in about 10' circle under the feeder)

    3) should I put a leg opposite the ladder so it will be less likely to blow or get tipped over (or is that overkill ) every year Hogs/cows destroy 2 of my feeders and I am tired of it

Great idea, heck I may need you to build me one..

Looks pretty stable to me, but another leg couldnt hurt.

I have 2 feeders like that, mine has a bigger gap between the barrels with a platform to stand on to fill feeders. It works great and is very stable, I don't think you will need a leg on the opposite side. I put a all season feeder on them with 12 volt solar panels.

Somewhere in the DYI forum there is a custom built feeder Moser put together that is a large cube that has a divider. One side corn and the other protein. I dig the idea of it for sure.

I would think that if you build it with decently heavy metal for the platform and legs it would be plenty sturdy but an extra leg wouldn't hurt at all.

Have you thought about a directional feeder to sling the corn away from the feeder itself? Might keep the pigs from digging up the ground under the feeder.

All you need now is a hay rack and surround it all with a food plot and water trough and your set

12 volt is the only way to go, It will sling the yellow nuggets far and wide, it keeps the critters moving around to feed instead of standing all bundled in one spot feeding.
Only thing I could see happening putting them together is if their feeing on the protein and the feeders goes off right by their head its gonna scare the poo out of them. Im not sure if this would keep them from using it or not.

Woody - I like the idea of the directional feeder, it will serve multiple purposes, I can have it spin away from the protein feeder, keep the hogs from tearing the ground up under the legs and present more shot opportunities instead of looking at their heads/butts for 20 minutes !!

That is why I like this website... great ideas to make hunting better !! thanks for the input

Thanks. I am not a feeder expert but I did stay at a Holiday Inn once or twice.

It definitely nice having the resource of TBH to help solve problems.
