    Kids and the missing filter

Got a kid at school that has no concept what the "filter" is. Will say pretty much whatever is on his mind.
Just the way he is, so everyone takes it all with a grain of salt...just trying to get him to pass his classes and graduate on up to high school (8th grader).

The AP's deal with him really well, and all the male teachers call his bluff on pretty much whatever he says when we know he's bs'ing.

SO...today, one of the AP's and I are ribbing him at lunch, and he turns around and calls us both d*uches. The AP told him he probably didn't know what that was...the kid spouts off something about it meaning a dumb person (slang definition). I told him he wasn't allowed to use it in context until he knew the REAL definition of the word.

This stumped him and shut him down...right up to the point when the oldest teacher on campus came walking by (in her 60's...theater teacher...very proper, and formal lady). He turned to her, and very politely asked, "Hey Mrs. blahblahblah, what does the word d*uche mean?"

Instantly, the AP's hands and mine went over our mouths to stifle the laughter. His eyes were watering...I almost fell over.

She replied indignantly, "well sir, that's absolutely none of your business"...never broke stride.

We regained our composure, told him that what he said was completly inappropriate, and instructed him to go to her room and apologize immediately, which he did (I checked). Then died laughing after he went around the corner.

This is my 6th year teaching this age group (middle school), and heard a lot of kids say stuff that threw me for a loop. This one now sits at #1 on my list.

Thank goodness we have only one week left till vacation!

Sounds like you need to give him one as a Christmas gift.

    Funny story.

It was one of those times when you get caught so completely off guard, you have no other reaction but to laugh your butt off.
