    Rules question

What is a youth allowed to kill during the Jan 3-16,2011 season?

    Pg 62 of hunters handbook
"The season is open in all counties where there is a general open season for white-tailed deer. All legal hunting means and methods are allowed, except Grayson County is archery only."

Pg 82 of handbook. "Special Late Season: Jan 3-16 (antlerless & spike buck only).

Go to the back of the book and look up your county, see what it says you're allowed to kill. If page 82 is the one with your county then you can only kill anterless and spikes.

Yes, page 82 is county listing (Lampasas).

Where I'm confused is in the county listing it shows any one, including adults, can kill does & spikes. But the youth only season does not specify does & spikes. So I can't kill my big buck (13"), but my son (youth) can?

Youth only can kill anything that you could do on the first day of rifle season. If this youth hunt is also the same dates for a late doe/spike season, then you can only shoot a spike or doe. And yes, your boy can take the big one, and you kaint!!!Nanna nanna boo boo

SWEEEEEET!!! That's to quote my son.

Is that because in the youth section it does not specify doe & spike only?

I don't know word for word what the regs say, but it usually says something along the lines : The bag limit for WT deer in youth season is the same for the General season for which county you hunt in. So, if does were legal on the first 2 days of the rifle season in that county, then the youth can take does and/or legal bucks. Some counties don't allow does till Thanksgiving and that weekend. That's why it's worded that way.
