    Myth about the Texas flag

I've heard it said on here a bunch of times that Texas is the only state that can fly the state flag at the same height as the American flag. NOT TRUE....

Any state can fly their state flag at the same height as the American flag as long as it is flown to the left of the AMercian flag (that shows dominence).

I was Color Guard in the Marines for 10 years. ANd this is coming form my flag manual.
    FYI

I had alwasy heard you can fly the Texas flag over the American flag because it was once its own country.

how do you determine left and right? Say the flag pole is in the middle of a park or something and is viewed from all angles.

Why Left. We read left to right. Which makes us instinctivly view items from left to right. You would think that left would be the more dominence.

Thats a big fat negative. Nothing can be flown over the American flag on Amercian soil.

If you stand at the base of a flag staff facing the road, it will be on your left.

"It is a common urban legend that the Texas flag is the only state flag that is allowed to fly at the same height as the U.S. flag. Allegedly, Texas has this right inherently (as a former independent nation) or because it negotiated special provisions when it joined the Union (this version has been stated as fact on a PBS website).[14] However, the legend is false. Neither the Joint Resolution for Annexing Texas to the United States nor the Ordinance of Annexation[15] contain any provisions regarding flags. According to the United States Flag Code, any state flag can be flown at the same height as the U.S. flag; the U.S. flag should be on its right (the viewer's left), however. Consistent with the U.S. Flag Code, the Texas Flag Code specifies that the state flag should either be flown below the U.S. flag if on the same pole or at the same height as the U.S. flag if on separate poles.[4]"

I am assuming the folks are confusing it with the only State Capital that can be as tall as the white house.

When looking at a color guard, it goes like this:

Senior rifleman, National colorer bearer, armed forces colors, and junior rifleman.

Even in the military, the junior man always walk, LEFT, instep, and abreast of the senior man.
