Should we be concerned if we're not seeing big bucks on camera

This is our first year in Duval County near Realitos upwards Hebbronville. We've had cameras up for some time now and biggest buck we've seen is mid 140's. I can understand not seeing the Big Boys yet on the hoof, but I would think at some point they would show at night on camera. For those of you that have hunted deep south for a while, should we be concerned?

We hunt a 2600 acre pasture on a 56,000 acre high fenced ranch owned by the Driscoll Foundation.

Have you had a chance to visit with any of the the other hunters in different pastures? Are they seeing the same quality bucks that you are seeing?

Well, I'm worried their not anywhere near our pasture. Nothing over 140 inches on camera even at night is odd I would think. But, everyone says that in 15-20 days, it should explode down there and bucks we've never seen will be everywhere. Let's hope so, cause' at this point, I'm not happy at all with what we're seeing.

I haven't. My father-in-law and I have only been down twice, both on weekend hunts mainly to refill feeders.

Set up your cameras away from the feeders and hunt away from your feeders. This is especially true in S.Texas. You will be amazed at what you will see.

Nope dont worry. I hunt 4k in Webb county. Weve seen only one of our good bucks on a camera. I saw two bucks over Thanksgiving that were never seen on camera. They are there just not corn heads!

Haha! They're waiting for your credit card to clear so they can shoo the big'ns under your stand!

Sorry, couldn't resist. I have a BIL who goes on "canned" hunts down there and we give him a load of crap.

I would suggest you do a camera survey as outlined by TPWD for the MLDP program.

2 bags of corn poured on the ground, prebaited for 4 to 6 days, conducted for 10 day to 2 weeks, reapplying corn as needed. Place a pile for every 100 to 150 acres, in your case pick some locations away from the feeders, ideally near trials, etc.

We have always had the big bucks come into this set up, but most of the time not come to the feeder cameras.

I wouldn't worry too much and if you feel is time to give it up then let me know and I will snatch that place up...

My BIL had a lease between Hebronville and Falfurius, Bucks did not come to the feeders...well except for spikes and trash, turkeys, and Hogs... Corn Feed the roads. Biggest deer killed were on the Road paths or sand dune crossings. Man I miss that place ~2500 acres next to the Baird family's ranch...they didn't hunt deer just some quail hunts, deer had a huge refuge next to us to hide.
