I have a NESCO American Harvester food dehydrator

been using it for 10 yrs and completely satisfied , they sell for around $60 ... different models available

if I were buying today, this is what I'd ask for Christmas ..... priced around $75

My wife just bought a Nesco 500 watt on Monday, and made jerky yesterday and today. We love it. It even has the adjustable thermostat on it. She got it at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I think it was about $60 but she had a 20% off coupon.

It doesn't stop with jerky either. It makes some great dried tomatoes, apples, etc.

A tip on the Nesco dehydrators. We have had two.....the first had the heater/fan/control unit on bottom, blowing upward, with all the trays stacked on top of it. The second had the heater/fan/control unit sitting on top of the trays, blowing downward. The second is a much better design because all of the mess....drippings, pepper, etc. doesn't fall into the works and muck it up. Makes a big difference in cleanup and will surely allow the newer unit to last longer.

Really happy with the one I bought from Cabelas. It costs more money, but it carries a heavier load. Has about 7 or 8 racks and maintains temp very well.
