Scope adjustment question for the experts out there.

I am sighting in a .243 for my son. I am shooting 4” high at 50 yards. The scope is a 4 clicks per inch adjustment.

Do I double the clicks(32) or half the clicks(8) to get to zero at 100 yards?

    Thanx,

4" high at 50 might be pretty dang close at 100. Shoot it first, and remember 4 clicks is one inch at the target.

          I would start with 16

Is the bullet still on the rise out of the barrel at 50 yds?

The bullet is probably still rising at 50 yards. Probably going to be higher than 4" at 100. Depends on the loads.

And yes to move the reticle 1" at 50 yards you would go 8 clicks.

You really need to shoot it at 100 to know what the bullet will do in real time.

4 clicks is 1" at 100 yards. i was wondering how many clicks is 1" at 50???

yeah... yeah... I know, I need to shoot at 100. But I figured there was a tried and true algorithm for the adjustment.

To specifically answer your question it is 8 clicks per inch at 50 yards.

Your scope has 1/4" per click at 100 yards adjustment. At 50 yards the value of each click would be 1/8". Move it down 32 clicks to zero at 50 yards and shoot at 100 yards to see where your bullet impacts. Make the necessary adjustments to zero at 100 yards. Generally speaking cartridges with similar velocity should almost dead on at 25 yds IME. Shoot to be sure at 100 yards to be sure.

8 clicks at 50 is the same as 4 clicks at 100
