    Deer Movement in Callahan County?

We are headed out for Thanksgiving. Wondering if anyone is seeing anything around the Cross Plains area?

I hunted a ranch between Cross Plains and Baird this weekend. A couple of guys who hunted Thursday and Friday said there was a lot of chasing going on - good buck movement - but the does did not seem interested yet. By the time I got there Saturday afternoon it was very warm and windy so things slowed down quite a bit. I bet things will be hoppin' in that neck of the woods Thanksgiving weekend.

Yesterday they hardly moved until right at dark. Since it got warm movement slowed down but they were chasin. I imagine Thanksgiving day when its 24 they will be on the move.

I drove down 36 Saturday afternoon from 4:00 to 4:30, and there were deer EVERYWHERE between Hwy. 36 Church of Christ south of Abilene to the Pecan Bayou crossing west of Cross Plains. One big nice and very tall 8-point was running along trying to beat me across the highway at one point. I passed him just before he got to a big tree on the fence. He jumped the fence out into the highway just as an oncoming car topped the hill. They hit him, but it must have been a glancing blow somehow. He was spinning down the middle of the highway like a breakdancer. When he quit spinning, he stood up and walked on across the highway.

I saw several others chasing in the pastures and wheat fields. Don't know if the does agree that it's time for the rut, but the bucks are definitely thinking IT'S TIME.

We are between Rising Star and Cross Plains. Had lots of deer movement the first week of season. My dad has been there since Firday and not seen a single deer. I am headed that way tomorrow. I think it mostly has to do with the moon. My cameras will tell me though.
