    Anybody else have this problem?

Had a dilema this weekend. A nice 8pt. walk in on me broadside at 20 yards. This deer would have scored in the 130's had at least a 16 inside spread. I even drew on him but let down (sorry no pics) never had seen him before. I realized he was only max 3 1/2 years old but had good mass. The problem is people around me if they see him he is dead. Alot of gun hunters in the area. Would you have taken the deer?

I have learned to hold out in this situation. Because if you shoot him he for sure wont live. Gotta take the chance.

Depend's on my mood for the day,the area I hunt, how many deer I see. Too many folk's get caught up with age and score's. Just shoot whatever make's you happy.

very good point bonesplitter. We have 220 acres and I am trying to manage it with all our neighbors and we have probably 1000 acres in colorado county between all of us and we have one neighbor on 200-250 acres that has shot 3-4 bucks already this year. All of the nice 3.5 year olds I have seen have eluded him Thank God. I shot a 137 out there and now my goal is to break 130-140 again so thats why I would have passed. I wotn shoot unless i think he is 4.5 either

It seems every time I let a deer go I am looking at it in somebody else’s truck the next week. Some people have the luxury of letting shooters go where they hunt there are just too many hunters around me. All I end up doing is saving them for others, all depends on where you hunt and the people around you imo

Same here. Might be different if I saw a ton of deer.

It's hard to let deer walk....but you can never shoot a GREAT deer if you shoot them when they are a good younger deer.

Thanks guys I have shot some good deer off this property. A 158 14pt. and a 137 8pt. But it has been 2 years since I have shot anything. I guess I will just stay patient.

Shoot whatever YOU want to shoot, not what everyone else is shooting. If you think he is a good one, shoot his butt. If he is not the right one you are looking for, let him go. He may get shot by someone else or he may not or he may get hit by a car or he may not. JMO.

If it got me excited, I would have shot!

I agree with the thinking that you shoot whatever makes you happy. I don't agree with shooting something just so the neighbor doesn't shoot him first. That's the root of the problem, everybody is shooting whatever they see because they don't want the other guy to shoot them. It's a vicious cycle and they aren't going to get bigger if that is the case. Shoot the ones that make you happy and pass the marginal ones. The idiot next door can't shoot them all...

I went through this last year and didnt tag a buck. Passed on several nice bucks but where still young. Had a legal 7 at 10 yards at least a dozen times this year he was in the 15" wide range but had TALL tines. I let them all walk due to age.

The deer big are there I know it....some where near 3500 pics on game cams this year and the deer I shot wasnt in any of them.
