    Rossi 4/10

Before dove season this year I bought my son a Rossi 4/10 single shot. He and I were both extremely excited about him being able to hunt and not just fetch birds. After the long talk about the extreme Importance of gun safety we were ready but he wanted me to shoot it first so I did and I knew immediately that this was not going to work the gun is so light that it kicked as hard as my 12 gauge and the barrel is so short that it rings your ears. I have a bad habit of not wearing ear protection but he had his. He took the gun from me and shot it once and that was all she wrote, he wouldn't have anything else to do with it and personally I don't blame him!!! What I am wondering is if anyone has any good ideas for a good youth gun that is youth friendly. This gun is definitely not it.

I used to shoot a youth model Remington 1100 20 gauge and it hardly kicked more than a 22. It was an awesome quail/dove gun because it was easy to shoulder and swing. The only drawback was that it was a little heavy, which was really only a problem on long days of quail hunting.

Thanks for the info 30-30 for whatever reason I didn't even look at the Remington youth guns I guess just because I was trying to take the inexpensive way out but it doesn't really matter if he can't shoot it and even if it is a little heavy right now it will be one he can use for several years.

The Remy youth 870 20 gauge is a good little starter gun and when he outgrows the stock you can replace it with a full length stock. Mossberg makes a little youth 20 gauge as well and its cheaper than the Remington.

Yea I didn't think about that I guess it would be pretty easy to pick up a stock for an 870 I guess the only thing different is just the stock.
