    Best FoxPro

Ok I think I am about to pull the trigger on a new Foxpro predator call. Is the FX3 still the best one out there? I opened the blinds in my bedroom yesterday and there stood a bobcat about 10 ft away just looking at me. I think he even gave me a little smirk. My old Johnny Stewert Cassett just wont fool them anymore, its time for an upgrade.

Dad has one of the new CS-24's from the Foxpro custom shop, and let me tell you, that thing rocks. The calling unit is kind of hard on batteries, he uses rechargables, but the sound is great and it will REACH. Best thing is that it doesn't start to distort at high volumes like some of the ones with samller speakers. The remote has pretty good range, alot better than some of the lower models. He wore out two Johnny Stewarts, and another Foxpro before this one. He likes this unit alot.

FX3 is no longer the best Foxpro but IMO it is better than the Johnny Stewart. With Foxpro it really depends on what you are using it for and how much you can afford. Below is a summary of a few of the new Foxpro's, hope this helps.

CS-24: Ideal call for open calling, tremendous volume capabilities.

Fury: Good all around call whether you are in open country or in thick woods. Just bought a used one

Scorpion: Good compact call, fits in your back pocket. I sold mine a couple of months ago because if it was windy or we were calling out in the open I had to hook up the SP-55 to get the volume out. The call itself is great I just got tired of having to carry around the external speaker.

Firestorm: a cheaper version of the Fury only it has a lesser remote, can't hold as many sounds and can't play 24 bit sounds.

I guess I should say what I am using it for. Most of my calling will be here in the piney woods of east Texas. Most of the calling will be done in small openings surrounded by dense woods.

In that case the CS-24 would be severe overkill.

I went ahead and ordered the Firestorm. It will be here before thanksgiving, so maybe I can put a dent in them around here.

I have the Fury and love it. I still use my mouth calls just not as much this early in the year. Now the yotes are coming to the pup distress and yote vocals but after the first hard freeze they will come hard to the prey distress sounds.

I wonder if I messed up by not getting the Fury? I just couldnt justify the extra coin, but now I see that there are a few differences.

I know it is bottom line Fox Pro but my Spitfire works fine for me. Called a yote and over 50 crows yesterday. They were even landing on the elevated box blind i was in when I played the owl and crow fight followed by the dying crow. This model is not the best for wide open calling and could use an external speaker.

Wildlife Technologies makes a really good call. They are extremely expensive though. I have seen them work when others would not though. I would like to have one but can't justify the price.

I called and asked dad what his older Foxpro was, was it an FX-3 or what? He laughed and said no, his first one they didn't make anymore, it was a 416. He said it was a dinosaur but it still worked and I could have it if I wanted it. So, I scored a caller today. He said he wanted an upgrade with more range and more sounds, that is why he bought the CS-24. His old one would just hold 16 sounds and you had to send it in to get re-programmed. It has called a jillion critters in its time though and has seen alot of fur hit the ground.

Here is another question. My son wants to shoot a yote, but he isnt quite accurate enough with my ar-15 for me to give him the green light. He can shoot a 22 all day long with good results. In my mind its just too small of a round to kill a yote. Am I wrong?

I have killed 'yotes with a .22 but it isn't the best by any stretch. Even the .223 leaves alot to be desired when the range gets out around 200+. I would try other options if at all possible. Try earplugs and muffs together and get him some more trigger time on the AR, I bet he can get good enough with it to do the job. It is probably the sound getting him more than anything.

After deer season we critter hunt about a day a week at a cattle ranch in hockley. My buddy has the FX-3 and I bought a spitfire. Other than him not having to change cards to get more sounds we have not noticed a difference. Ive had my spitfire a year and havent changed the batteries. He changes batteries about every other month. If I didnt have a mortgage like him Id prolly got the fx also. Spitfire works for me.

Rifles..he carries a 17fireball and I either carry my ar or a .17hmr. Ive flat rolled dogs with my HMR furthest one was at 137 steps. Ive yet to have one get away from that little bullet. So much hes thinking of selling the fireball cause of ammo prices
