    Fall Turkey Hunting Tips Needed

I know what to do during the spring, what about the fall?

From what I have seen our turkeys at the ranch doing, which is running in large groups...Gobblers, Jakes, and Hens...I would say I would find a trail they travel on to and from a feeder or green field and ambush them that way.
    Just my 2 cents...

This or just hunt the feeders, they aren't shy if they are around. Maybe tree talk and purrs if they are roosted close.

^^^^ This. Pattern them, as long as they aren't molested, turkeys tend to be pretty reliable. I had a group a couple of years ago that you could set your watch to. they showed up at that feeder at 10:15 like the sun rose each morning.

The other way, and this can be pretty exciting, is to bust them up. I mean scatter them to the 4 directions of the wind. Again you have to locate the group, then break them up. A dog can be useful, a vehicle or if you are really risky a gun blast.
Then set up in good cover and use a "comeback call" which is a kee-kee run call. If you have skill with a call you can recall the birds back to you and get a shot. It will be hard to get them in bow range this way.

take my advice for what its worth, I stuck one at a feeder on sat morning and never found it

A serious turkey hunter friend told me that trying any type of calling is fruitless in the fall. Feeders, patterns, etc. is how to get them. Find their roost and wait for 'em.

This is a great tactic. Set up where you busted them. They will come back to that spot.

I read a story in American Hunter (I think) that said turkeys are just as responsive in the fall as spring. Though you cant call them in but merely locate them and go from there

Despite what many people think, birds are still responsive to calls during the fall. Hens are still very "bossy and nosey" just like they are in the Spring and, with the right plan, they can be receptive to calls.

I'd recommend to pattern em out, set a decoy or 2, and use a blind. As for the calls, I use soft purrs and clucks to simulate content, feeding birds and I'll throw in some kee-kee's.
