I had been getting this deer on camera for several week now and haven't been able to catch him on stand. I had myself talked into letting him walk if I saw him. It has been long overdue for me to bag a deer, I have been holding out for that trophy deer of a lifetime.
This weekend had been very active for me while on stand. I had passed up two smaller eight points and stumbled up on a very nice 8 point this morning that I thought for sure I would see tonight. But, he turned out to be a no show. I was on my way back to the truck tonight and got all the way back to the truck and put all my equipment up and was getting ready to drive off and I catch a glimpse of a doe not even 25 yards from me. I look a little harder and spot a buck behind her another ten yards. I realized it was the buck that I had been getting on camera. This is were it gets crazy. I put the truck in park grabed my bow and slowly got out. The doe ran off to were I couldn't see her anymore and he followed. So, I continued to creep up and see If I could spot them well not even 2 minutes later he came back out to where I could see him and laid down in the grass. So, I keep creeping up, once I got to 25 yards he hopped up and I was already ready for him. I let it rip! With it being as dark as it was I didn't get as good as shot as I would have liked to. So, I went on to the house and wasted 45 minutes, it was killing me. I was so worried I made a stupid mistake and wounded this deer. I rushed back out to the woods and found my arrow and man THE BLOOD was every where. I knew he couldn't have gone far. I later found him about 75 yards away with much relief on my behalf.
I got to inspecting he rack up close and noticed that it was even stranger that I first thought. He has a hole is the center of the cluster that goes down into the main beam about 1 1/2". I know he won't score much, but the way this hunt played out is one I will never forget, I'm pretty sure that will never happen to me again. Im still amazed!
