We had quite a few cairns on our old lease in Coleman County. Here's an interesting link, even if not the same thing.

You need to talk to Donald Hoffman 830 534 8945 He is an historian from Nixon that is an expert on John Westley Hardin and pretty much all Texas history. He made a short film on Wes and does a 2.5 hour tour on information where Wes lived and hid out. I went on the tour last month. Give him a call and tell him Dennis Ortmann told you about him. He’s 88 but it’s amazing when he knows and dates etc

Our landowner told me that there are graves from early settlers passing thru on our lease. His family has owned the property over 100 years and said wild pigs have rooted the head stones around over the years. I walk about 60 feet from them every time I hunt but never think about them. The graves are in a small group of trees but when I looked for them, I couldn`t see anything that looked like a grave or marker. My great great grandfather was buried near the area in 1886 in a small country graveyard that is still being used now and then. I guess the settlers were before that time or just had no $$ to use a grave yard.
