    Kansas Update

Just an Update for those of you that are headed this way. The bucks are now with the does.
This morning at 7:30, I had a mature doe come into my set up and right behind her was a 3 yr old 8 point. He would not leave her and not let her get more than 5 yards from her.

If this bucks makes it this year, he should be a HOSS next year and the year after..

He was not chasing, he was all up on her.... Everytime she would stop, his nose was planted in her hind end...

Pretty neat site to see.. Wish I would have gotten in on video...

Those of you headed this way, it may be a little slow if they hit LockDown. But then again, they may still be chasing a little..

Glad your seeing them cause I'm not been here since Monday only seen few does right at dark. My partner and I sat for 8 hrs yesterday not one deer, I was seeing 3/4 times as many deer 2 weeks ago. Both changed stands for this evening hope we start seeing them.

It has been slow for us as well. The current weather has them all messed up.
I have only see 7 deer total since last Friday evening. Not moving like they were before. With the rain and cold front coming they should be moving a little better.
I am juts looking for a Big Doe and my Kansas Season will be over...

Wilson county in SE Kansas I had most exiting hunt I've had tonight!!! Had an awesome buck chasing a doe wouldn't come in range till way after dark. I started snort weezing n grunting the best I could with my mouth and he would grunt back, start rubbing and grunting!!! Absolutlely awesome!! He finaly came in within 30 yards real late but I couldn't make out my peep or pins. Either monster 8 or 10 with weak g4's. High 150s low 60s by far best buck I've ever seen on the hoof while bowhunting, what a rush.

One of the draw backs of hunting the rut is when the bucks get into locked down mode. What I mean by this is that they have found a super hot doe and wont leave her regardless of all the grunts, snorts, rattling and whatever. Unless the doe comes to you u have virtually no chance of getting him. He knows he is fixing to get lucky and you can't pull him away. I have had that happen in Kansas more times than I can count. I guess the low deer population enhances this. In Texas we have so many does its easy for them to have fun but in Kansas once they lock on they aren't letting go.

This morning was great. 15 different deer, 7 does, 7 bucks, 1 I could not tell as it would not come out of the timber. One of the bucks was a NICE ONE... He should be a HOSS next year if he makes it through the gun season.
Bucks were chasing does all morning. I have never been fortunate enolugh to be so up close and personal and hear the sounds of the Does bleating and bucks chasing. I had this going on all morning.
I also had a first when a yearling Spike came in, and just for fun, I started estrous bleating at him. I had him running circles around me for at least 15 minutes. Everytime he would look away or act like he was going to leave, I would bleat again and he would come back looking. Never had the bleat work so well before.

I am hoping the rain pushes on through tonight and I can get back at them in the morning...
