    Opening day memory

Lets turn back the clock. What is one of your most favorite memories of opening day of deer season, be it a bow, or gun..

Opening day of Ohio gun season 1998. I was hunting a neighbors hay field. Cold Ohio morning, frost all over the ground. Walking back to my stand, get about half way thru the field, and I hear it snort, and take off. It is O-dark thirty. So, I slowly continue to my stand. Get there and get set up. It is about 7:30am, and I hear something from my right, I turn and see a deer. I didn't care what it was, I shot, and dropped it. Then I hear all this noise from behind me, I get up and run over to the edge of the wood line I was hunting, and see about 25 deer hauling A** across this corn field. See 4 or 5 NICE bucks. I went back to my spot, and sat back down on the bucket I was using as a seat. about 20 minutes later, I went to check on the deer I had shot. Seen it was a little button buck. Field dressed it, and drug it back to the house. I wondered the rest of the season what if I had let him go, would those other deer of came out? Sometimes it pays to let them walk, and sometimes it is the only one you see all season. Just one of those questions that will never be answered....

I remember my first opening season was i was aloud to hunt the farm by myself. I shot a yearling doe off a fence row, many moons ago. Of course ten other deer ran off including a magnificent buck, that i never saw before the shot!
