I think your buck will survive I've seen three shot in the location you described and they all lived. One had a bad limb the other two where fine after they healed.

i call that area behind the sholder, below the spine and above the lungs the Burmuda Triangle cause of the animals i have lost there. Nevertheless, don't beat yourself up to bad, just keep practicing and keep the broadheads sharp. The next one will fold in sight of the stand and make you feel a whole lot better!

Thanks for the positive input everybody.....
What did the arrow hit in that area (above lungs, below spine, behind shoulder) that caused the sudden stoppage?
Buckeye, sorry about your lost big one..... I'm feeling your pain.

Had a buddy do the same thing, but had a complete pass thru. Saw the deer the next weekend walking around with freshly healed wounds.

We managed to get him later on in the season.

He also got the nick name "Fifty Cent" for his ability to survive shootings.

Don't give up on him you may see him again.

Jess, it happens to the best of all of us.. Glad to see you took time to look and bring the dogs in, maybe when you go back, he will be alive and you can second chance him...
