A Very Special Weekend At Bao!!!!!

I will start this off with my wifes very first deer harvest, and what a harvest it was!! This is her story in her words....

Now from the beginning of this year I have been letting Dale know this year it was my turn to use his one and only buck tag for Young County making sure he knew it was going to be my YEAR after getting started in bowhunting 3 years ago I had yet takin a deer and this year was going to be my YEAR!!!

We didnt get to do much hunting all thru bow season because of other commitments and it was looking grim for me opening of gun season because our little one is starting to get sick.....but Dale talked me into coming out on saturday to do at least one days worth of hunting before he had to start back to work......little did I know he had made a harvest Saturday morning of a 7point cull buck.....First thought was you did what? with my buck tag and all you took was a cull buck!!!!

Saturday evening hunt was a slow hunt absolutely nothing came in but I had time to simmer down after my husband had did me wrong!!!! So I did what any woman would do in my situation (I whipped out the check book and bought me a day hunt to see if I could get me a buck) thinking that I will teach him to use my tag!!! So sunday moring we got up and he drove me to the Red stand and on his way he went...... Now while sitting there I got really excited I just new something was going to come and while still a little on the dark side of the morning in walked my first target a Doe she was huge, I could make out where I needed to hit her so I pulled back aimed and let go I was so EXCITED I had did it I got my first deer ...so excited I got out looked at my arrow good red blood but only a little bit on the ground Panic mode had set in quick so I call dale crying at this point cause Ihad now wounded one of johns deer, so dale hurried back over to me and started looking.... well I stayed put while he did his thing only for him to come back and take my hand and as we walked he was being really quiet so I didnt know what to think we walked about 70yards and my doe had all of a sudden turned into 10point buck that rough scored 130 4/8 I was in SHOCK and I think for the most part so were Dale and John.....WOW what a FIRST!!!!

I would like to Thank you John for giving me the oppertunity to take this beautiful, beautiful monster of a buck!!!!!

I would also like to Thank my husband Dale for getting me involved in this GREAT sport.

Just one more thing I have to say John and his crew(johnny, ben, and carlis) have been a BIG part of My Firsts... Starting with last year he had Ben take me out for my first turkey hunt where I got a BIG beautiful Tom and I did my first solo hunt in that weekend and scored on a jake, and now this Monster Buck!!!!! You guys have givin me so many wonderful memories!!!!!

Brazos Archery Outfitters is a Great place to take a beginner or experienced person to hunt !!!! You can't ask for a better group of Outfitters!!!!

      The cull buck story.......

I went up to BAO were I have a 1400 acre season lease, I had intentions of hunting for hogs on Friday night and just scout the buck activity a bit, man they are starting to move , I was in my stand no less than a MINUTE and had four deer come in, in less than 5 minutes I had five different buck within eyesight that were out cruising the local population.....needless to say not a single hog showed up.....

Saturday morning I was making to much noise moving through the brush getting to my stand so I got out my grunt call in the dark and started doing grunts every 30 yards or so to imitate a buck following a doe... Well I finnally made it to my stand and WOW!!!! The grunting worked almost to good, lol!!! I was pulling my bow and back-pack up and had two deer run under me!! I thought WOW thats cool.... They feed a bit on the trails under my tree and then run away to chase other things, when daylight arrived about 45 minutes later I began grunting again, Here they come again charging back in my direction, the same two deer that were under me in the dark, one was a nice young ten point and the other was a really nice young eight point, within seconds I had five bucks under me and three doe had came in also...needless to say things were getting exciting!!!! I know there are some super bucks in the area but I had made the choice to cull out a old dinosaur instead of a big trophy, once he came in I had the video rolling and prepared for the shot, ......full draw.... then I made the sound...BAAAAA.... he looking at me.. itsss goooo time!!! WHAT WAS THAT!! AHHHMY CAMERA JUST RAN OUT OF TAPE!!!!!!!!! THWACK!!!! I went ahead a took the shot and heard him fall just seconds later in the brush not 50 yards from where I was in my tree stand.....I now spend the next 30 minutes getting a new dv tape and filming 15-20 minutes of cut-aways and finding my cull buck!!!!

I get done with all my camera work and decidie its time to get so GREAT field photos of me and my old bucko, find a great place and get A PICTURE....just one picture and my stinking digital camera DIED!!!!

Here is the picture of my first buck of the weekend.

Now fast forward to having a very mad wife at camp because she wanted to use the one buck that I can harvest off of the lease!!!!! Yeap two years in a row I beat her to it and TWACKED a buck ....she was MAD!!!

I decided to not even go to my stand rather I took a buckect of VERY ROTTON corn and attemped to get some hogs to come in.......I was sitting in a live oak thicket about 30 yards from where the rotton mess started and waited for a pig to show.... It was not ment to be, no piggies for me that evening, BUT!!! To my suprise a coyote did arrive and I was GOING TO GET IT ON VIDEO!!!! The stage is set and the carmera i s on , and the target is in the vidoe frame.....I get on my knees and range the coyote, 31 yards...get drawn and THAWCK!!!! Perfect shot and the coyote went down in less than 30 yards!!!!! SWEET AND I GOT IT ALL ON VIDEO!!! NOT!!!!!! In all the action I FORGOT TO HIT RECORD!!! I was sick, my camera carma had bit again!!!

But I did get my coytoe!!!! and found a nice spot on a rock for a great field photo of my harvest!!!!

Animal No2# was now on the ground!!!

The final part of this weekend story takes place just hours after getting home from BAO....in Parker county....

Dang cameras are going to be the death of me...

Last week I over heard a few old farmers talking and one was upset about a deer that had been in his garden eating his beets, so I took the time to introduce myself and talked with him a little while and offered him a option for deer removal, he said yes and agreed to give me ONE chance at the buck, the time was set for Sunday afternoon..

Well, I got over to Toms house and he showed me around his property(about 50 acres) and told me that I had better hurry up cause the buck was goin to show pretty fast with a couple of doe... I thought yea right.., said they do every night about the same time... He had a nice pecan tree to hide in so I climbed up and hung a stand in it on a almost straight limb... I swear it was not 20 minutes and in came a doe.....then this older looking 8pt, , garden was about a acre or so.....in no time they were on my end in a small patch of beets, I drew back and let him have it, stinking buck ran stright into one of the only prickly pear catus on the property....

Went to find him all buryed up in it, so I said to my self lets get some pic, NOT HAPPENING!!!!!! dang camera was dead , dead, dead.... Well I run down to the store and pick up some batteries, then I had to reprogram the stinking camera and put in the wrong date then took all my pics, I'm driving home checking out my pics and notice they have the wrong stinking date!!!!!! I getting where I hate these dang cameras!!!!!

I figure it will score around 110 or so, pretty heavy too, fat ole buck..

With everthing that happened this weekend it has been pretty crazy, I'm still in amazement over the whole thing...Must have been the full moon!!
