    Wind Question

Hey greenscreeners. I'm in Hardeman county (SE corner of the panhandle) and I foolishly set up my pop up and treestand to the north of my feeders. I had a nice consistent S wind during bow season but now the wind has shifted out of the N. Can I expect a N wind for the rest of the season in my area? What is the best direction to set up my blind / stand. Thanks guys.

It's no different than Dallas. Wind changes direction with cold fronts and such. It'll be out of the south a bunch, but this time of year when a front comes through it's gonna be out of the north for a day or two.

Here's a 10-day forecast showing the wind directions expected:

Wind will come out of the south before it comes from the north and the from either the east or west following the front. Not unlike the wind will blow in Dallas. It is the fronts that dictate wind direction in that part of Texas.

Set up another stand on the south side and hunt accordingly...pay attention to where the deer come from too.

My best stand is on the east side of a spot I hand corn. The wind rarely blows out of the east here. It is my most flexible stand when it comes to hunting the wind. Edit: The deer at this spot come from the West.

That's the best thing to do. West side is good for me here. We get a lot of southeast and northeast winds.

Keep the sun in mind as well.

prevailing winds in southeast texas are out of the east. Even when the wind is not blowing, the currents still drift east.

Pay attention to where the deer are coming from. You may be able to cut them off if the wind is wrong for the feeder.

For one stand location, west is best in Texas. Ideally two stands for south and north winds are the way to go. We get a lot of east as the northers die out and the wind slowly switches back around to the south.

I put my Rifle Blind to the E N E of Feeder. The wind in Hall Co & Childress county will blow more out of the N. W or S. W... during the next couple of months.. I screwed up thinking it would be the same during bow season and I lost a ton of opportunities b/c wind blew out of the SE a lot... just my .02 and I haven't nailed a big'en yet.. so what do I know...

wind direction probably wont stay the same but if it is a good ground blind and you take the right precautions then the wind direction wont matter. I hunt out of a ground blind alot and have taken some nice deer with a bow in weather that did not agree with my setup.Three words for ya! "Dead Down Wind"

No, just a significant frontal system shifted winds north. Your predominant winds will be S-SW, your north setup should be good for 75% of you hunting.

Ricky, i have to disagree 100% with this. West could not be worse for a 1 stand set up. Prevailing winds across most of the state is from a westwardly flow..... even on a calm day your scent is going to drift from west/southwest to east/northeast.......
