    Stereotypical Traditional Bowhunter

    Out of curiosity:

What is your description of a "stereotypical traditional bowhunter", and what is your opinion of them.

    Be honest.

    Firstoff Welcome!

Someone who wants to do it the old way. I admire them because it is the way it was done forever until compounds came along and they choose to do it even though it is harder.

A passionate individual that has a love for traits of traditional archery...they love the looks of the wooden bows crafted by outstanding bowyers, wooden arrows, turkey fearther for fletching, and love to the simplicity of hunting without all the techno gadgets.

If you need a mental picture, I would say Bish, Buff, And Chunky others will may say Howard Hill. However, TBH is where I was introduced to traditional bowhunting and these are just a few of my mentors; of course, I can not forget the "Trad Diva" aka Deb.

Trad guys and gals are great individuals, they are laid back and always willing to help a newbie.

Wooden long bow, cedar arrows, flint heads, corduroy pants, flannel shirt, Fedora hat, tall slim build ... Fred Bear I guess

Seems to ignore all of the modern day scent / camo / tech stuff and brings home the venison every year!

Someone that lives by the mantra "keep it simple" and loves the pursuit as much as they love the kill.

Hmmm - how to answer this ?

I have to go along with the posts before me,

              and add this -

"Regardless of your level of ability - If you are one who dedicates him/herself to the learning of how to shoot "The Stick and String" in any one, or all of it's many variations, and you have the ability to keep an open mind to the reality that the learning never stops, and one style does not fit, or compliment all, then you are considered by me to be a Traditional Archer. and Bowhunter."

Folks - One size does not fit all.

Agreed with extreme bowman.... walk with me Fred!

The stereotypical traditional bowhunter is at a remote camp with duck cloth wall tent in harsh conditions.

Opinion? I guess the old trad guys are a equal mix of Teddy Roosevelt meets John Wayne meets Grizzly Adams. In short, they are revered.

Patient! Quiet, stealthy, and a good woodsman.

Legdog, the tent in that pic looks so much like ours I'll be laughing all day. We feed a lot of people.
