    Would you rather. . .

Okay, so I have a new stand that I put up a couple of weeks ago at our place in DeWitt, It's the farthest stand from anyone on the 276 acres that the family owns, the problem is that I pass by my Uncle In-Laws stand by about 200 yards or so. The other problem is that in order to get to my stand I have to walk through waist high (no lie) weeds and grass to get to my stand which is about a good 1/2 -3/4 mile walk from where we would park. I asked my cousin that hunts there as well if I could mow the path that I walk with the tractor this weekend so that I don't jump any Pigs or whatever can be hiding in waste high weeds. He said he would prefer if I didn't. The stand has great potential, I have about 6 trails crossing in front of it. I just don't feel safe walking through 1/2 a mile of waist high weeds.

    So what would you do?
Would you Mow the Weeds (probably take no more than 1 hour or so)?
Would you avoid walking in there at dark?
Or Would you Obey the Cousin and not mow until later (Knowing that they do things at the ranch without concent of the other family)?

Sorry for the wall of text

I would have mowed it when I put the stand in or at least as early as possible. And prolly would have mowed more trails into the area as the deer also like to use these mown trails to get around in high weed areas.

Mow yourself a strip, and smack your cousin upside the head if he complains.

True, I should have, but by the time everythign else was done around the ranch I didn't have time. & Realistically there are only 2 ways to this stand, One down the fence line, and One comming in from behind it, both have high weeds. Oh well, guess I"ll risk it.

I guess my thought is, My stand is approximately 100 yards from our neighboring fence line on a part of that land (The neighbors) that is farmed for hay and other stuff. Tractors are always going over there, not to mention the 2 Gas Rigs that are drilling not 1/2 a mile accross the creek from me. I don't think a 45 minute tractor ride would spook anything away long term. Sure It may not be a good spot to hunt that night, but give it 24 hours or so I would think it would be fine. . .

I would wait a couple of weeks and frost will take care of the high grass and weeds. In the meaintime, I wouldn't worry about it.

Mowed an area two weeks ago and put up a camera and threw out a handful of corn. Finished mowing at 3:30 pm. First picture of a deer was 9:00 pm with 50 pictures in three days. Deer didn't seem to mind.

Wait till mid day and mow a strip. You're not gonna bother anyone and not gonna spook any of the deer anyway. If Cuz gets PO'ed, forget him!

put some cows in there to eat it down for you

If the cousin owns it, I would do what he says or you may be hunting some where else.

Cows are on the place, they don't touch whatever this weed is. And the ranch is a shared ownership 50% my wifes parents and 50% her cousin's parents. I may just wait and mow it while i'm up there by myself to avoid any drama.

Okay, just got word that the Cousin won't be at the ranch until late Friday, We're going up Thursday evening, so I can sneak out Friday morning and mow a strip to the blind. . . I'll probably take some heat for it, but oh well.
