Your Opinions on this One-Antlered Buck

Please give me your opinions on this buck...
    1) Was the missing antler broken off or just never grew to begin with?
    2) Is the missing antler likely to grow next year or will he always be this way?
    3) Is he genetically inferior due to the antler condition (cull) or are his offspring likely to be normally antlered, even if he only grows one antler every year?

I know that you can probably not say with a great degree of certainty from just looking at these pictures, but I would still like your opinions.

    THANKS!

I can say for sure he only has one antler - hope this helps

That's a big deer for San Saba anyway - he must be a mid 40

If it broke off, I would think you'd still be able to see the pedicle.

Can you legally shoot a one antlered deer like this in an antler restricted county?

Cull... I would have to see him out of the herd..

It may have broke off during early growth. I had one like it a few years back before the rule changed and my daughter busted him in the rain. Sadly to say we did not find him. Would have made a great first buck to mount.

That's what I was thinking too.

There is no pedicle. It should be visible under any circumstances. Even when a buck sheds his antlers the pedicles are always there and visible. I'll wager this buck has never grown that antler and never will grow one there. Ther is no pedicle and the pedicle is where the antlet grows.

cull. But id love to have a one antlered mount on the wall. and the rest in the freezer.

I'm with Walker. I just don't know if his offspring would stand a chance. I would probably let the air out of him and let the good gened deer breed.

There is such a thing as a buck with only one antler pedicle. I believe this is such a buck.

I agree don't look like he will ever grow one.
