    Educating Deer

How long do you think after you're busted (sight, sound, smell, etc.) do you think deer will remember?

I've always heard people say "I don't want to educate some does" because of wind or other things!

How long will they avoid a place & if they do and what does it take to get them back?

What are some of your thoughts on this?

depends on what time of year it is - if it is during the rut it will only take a doe running by withing sight of a buck for him to forget and follow here wherever she goes, even if it is right back where he was just spooked from.

Also depends on what the hunting pressure around your area is. I have hunted places in Shackleford Cnty where you can spook every deer off of a wheatfield and they are all back within 30 minutes and I have hunted places (right now) where you can't drive your vehicle in when your hunting because if they hear thaty truck rattling down the ranch road you ain't gonna see squat!

        same stand

I have only one blind that I bowhunt from. I park about 1/4 mile away and walk in. I don't approach unless the wind is right. I enter about an hour early in the dark and don't leave until all of the deer have been gone for a good while. I know the deer have busted me walking in during darkness because they have started watching the gate excessively where I enter into the pasture.
I have noticed that the bigger bucks are not coming in until it is dark and I can't see my pins. I can see them and count points through my binoculars but it's too dark to get a shot. I think I have educated my deer. I have laid off the spot all week and will give it another try this weekend and see what happens.

I think that is highly variable depending on the deer. At my lease I would say 24-48 hours. I do think it is possible to overhunt a stand.

I don't think deer ever forget. I got on a lease that had the same guys on it for twelve years. Had some young guys, some come and go guys and guys that didn't know much about deer hunting. Some guys would get down out of the stand with deer around, some would throw sticks to scare deer off to get down and so on and so on. When I got on the lease, with each sit, when the deer came out, they would instantly look up at the tripod and just stare. It made it VERY tough to hunt some stands. If ANYTHING looked or smelled out of place the does would blow at you all day long.

If a MATURE buck busts me by sight my set up will be moved asap!
That may be considered over the top but i do a large portion of my hunting in an area where you may only see a couple a shooters a year. Rather move it then risk it.

I have a doe on my property that for two years in a row . . . at least 10 times walks up to 50 yards, lets all the other does in and stares right up into the tree. A few times I've seen her circle the entire tree before coming in.

I want to kill her so bad
